Principal trumpet of the John Wilson Orchestra, the BBC Big Band, and has also been featured on many movie scores including Avengers Endgame, the Judy Garland Bio Pic Judy and several Bond Movies including the last one to date, No Time to Die.

Mike is Professor at The Royal Academy of Music and holds the position The Derek Watkins Chair of Trumpet. He is also Professor at The Royal College of Music, and Associate Artist at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Mike regularly works with Seth MacFarlane in the recording studio and in concert, both in London and the US. He was fortunate to collaborate for many years with the late Jessye Norman, working closely with her in concerts and recitals throughout the world.

Mike has also been a soloist with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the Espoo Big Band and The London Symphony Orchestra with Eddie Daniels. Mike is music director of the highly acclaimed Brass group Mike Lovatt’s Brass Pack, which has played to sold out performances at Harrogate and Snape and Perth festivals. This unique 25-piece brass big band is inspired by the 1968 iconic Capitol Records album Billy May’s Big Fat Brass.

Last year (2025) The Brass Pack released their first album Mike Lovatt’s Brass Pack Live.

Following on from the success of Mike's first solo album 56 Degrees North with Foden's Band, Mike’s second album - featuring ballad songs -is called Pathways of Love.
